this has been my go to pasta sauce when I have the time to cook it, so I asked over on Instagram if I should write out the recipe. everyone voted ‘yes’ so here we are. heads up this sauce does take a little over an hour to make but it is definitely worth it!
- full white onion, ideally diced
- 2 cans of crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup of Earth Balance vegan butter
- 1 cup vodka
- 2 cups vegan heavy cream (you can easily make vegan heavy cream at home with 1 3/4 cups of rice or soy milk and 1 2/4 cups of melted vegan butter this should make either exactly or a little over 2 cups)
in a skillet, saute your onions in the butter, on medium-high heat, until slightly brown & soft. pour in your vodka and let cook for 10 minutes. do not reduce heat, this step will make it non-alcoholic. mix in crushed tomatoes & cook for 30 minutes. pour in your homemade heavy cream & cook for another 30 minutes.
viola, super easy & delicious pasta sauce! you can also add in vegan parmesan cheese if you’d like, I just haven’t found a kind I like & wanted to keep this as simple as possible.
